  • Senior Emergency Clinician 2007-Present
    NYC Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center, New York, NY. Helped hire staff, plan physical plant, and organize infrastructure prior to opening. Headed up Emergency Service, and participated in marketing. Opened as sister hospital to Florida Veterinary Specialists in September 2006, NYCVS is built on a business model and philosophy which identifies the referring veterinarian as the hospital’s central focus. NYCVS has 38 doctors including 12 experienced emergency clinicians and specialists in virtually all areas of veterinary medicine. It is the largest veterinary hospital to open fully-staffed in history.
  • Emergency Clinician 2006-2007
    Florida Veterinary Specialists and cancer Treatment Center, Tampa, FL. In preparation for the opening of NYC Veterinary Specialists in New York, a position was opened and I was relocated to Tampa to become acquainted with the philosophy and infrastructure of this 10-year-old, 50-doctor, emergency and referral center. FVS has won many awards and is the 3rd most profitable veterinary hospital in the United States.
  • Director of Emergency and Critical Care 2004 – 2006
    The Center for Specialized Veterinary Care, Westbury, New York. The Emergency and Critical Care Service provides round-the-clock support for the local veterinary community. It is staffed 24 hours by veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians. The Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room are equipped with the most current instruments and monitoring devices available. This allows the Service to provide the most efficient and compassionate care available. The Service is an integral part of the CSVC, a state of the art referral-only facility whose other services include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Dermatology, Dentistry, and Alternative Medicine. Facilities include Computed and Plain-film Radiography, Helical CT, Ultrasound, MRI, C-arm Fluoroscope, Scintigraphy, Radioiodine, Linear Accelerator.
  • Rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery 2003 – 2004
    The Center for Specialized Veterinary Care, Westbury, New York

Veterinary Experience

  • 2002 Special Species Symposium at Penn 2001 – 2002
    Chairperson and Chief Coordinator. Oversight of lecture and wet lab subcommittees. Responsible for key decisions about guest accommodations, wet lab instructors, lecture topics, fund raising, advertising and promotion. Registered domain name and developed website.
  • Remote Area Medicine – Utah, Nevada, Wyoming April 2002
    Veterinarians and veterinary students travel to Indian reservations to run spay / neuter / vaccination / emergency clinics. Students perform from 2-6 spays or neuters per day. This was a 2-week trip.
  • Bronx Zoo, New York, NY Summer 1998
    Zoo Pathology Assistant. Performed necropsies on any and all deceased zoo animals. Assembled computer database of histological slides. Assisted resident pathologists with all aspects of zoo pathology.
  • Bronx Zoo, New York, NY Summer 1997
    Herpetology Intern. Cared for all animals in the Reptile House. Educated public on behavior, ecology, and conservation of reptiles and amphibians. Accompanied curator and Reptile House staff on in situ conservation projects.

Other Experience

  • American Museum of Natural History 2007 to 2009
    Developed curriculum and taught “Introduction to Veterinary Medicine” to 1st and 2nd graders in The Museum’s Young Scientists Circle–a weekly 1.5 hour class involving audio-video presentations and hands-on projects like “Open-Fruit Surgery.”  Also taught classes of 2- and 3-year-olds in the Early Adventures and Explorations program.  This program emphasizes self-investigation using art activities, expeditions through the museum, and the handling of live animals.
  • Israel Defense Force (Israeli Army) 1993 to 1996
    Sergeant, Elite Infantry Reconnaissance. Commanded 20 soldiers in training and operations. Evaluated performance of soldiers and reported to commander of unit. Studied navigation, survival, and reconnaissance. Won award for outstanding trainee in elite forces training camp.

    Founder, Web designer and Developer. Manage all aspects of web design from flowcharting, databasing, and layout to media strategy, promotion, and interface design.

  • Cayuga Nature Center, Ithaca, NY 1998 to 1999
    Wildlife and Nature Educator. Led groups of 20-30 children on explanatory nature walks. Taught nature seminars and school seminars in local elementary schools.
  • Agricultural Student and Kibbutz Farmer, Israel 1991 to 1993
    Studied agricultural techniques and livestock care. Managed all aspects of crop growing in one of the middle-east’s largest date palm orchards. Supervised 10 workers in pollination, pruning, irrigation and harvesting. Harvested carp and tilapia from hatcheries. Tended and fed turkeys in large turkey production facility.
  • Taught remedial English and Math to groups of college students 1990 – 1991
    As part of Rockland’s Peer teaching program for students in need of remedial help as well as students with English as a second language.
